Dit Da Jow Jars
One of the most important components needed to prepare any Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm liniment kit is the glass jar, plastic materials should never be used as the plastic can leach chemicals like BPA (Bisphenol A) into your liniment. A question often asked is where can I get the proper glass jar. One really simple option is a one-gallon pickle jar, I just picked up a couple for $6.34 ea at Sam’s Club.
You can also find them at Costco and Walmart for a little more money. It is a lot of pickles so unless you like pickles or on a low carb diet you might wonder what to do with them all. I’m not a big pickle eater so I bring the unopened jars to my local homeless shelters and let them pour the pickles in their own storage container.
Once emptied the best way to clean them and get rid of the vinegar smell is first rinse out the jar with warm water then add some dish soap and fill it up with hot water, once filled place the cap back on and tighten then shake for a minute and let it sit overnight. The following day empty the jar and rinse again with cold water, wipe dry with a paper towel and you are good to go.
These jars are good for smaller kits or using the double or triple soak maceration techniques. They are also handy to use in a pinch to start a kit while waiting for a larger jar you might have ordered to arrive.
5 Liter Jars
Other popular Dit Da Jow jars that ranges in price from $10.00 to $20.00 is the Fido 5 liter jar, it is also sold as the Bormioli jar. It also is sold in a 4 liter size but the 5 liter is best for Dit Da Jow or Iron Palm.
This jar has a flip top clamp down lid and uses a replaceable rubber gasket to make it leak and evaporation proof. Five liters is approximately 169 ounces so it is a good size for most large kits like our authentic Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm kits. As you can see in the photo there is plenty of room for movement when the jar is shaken.
Larger Glass Jars
If you are in the market for jars larger than 5 liters then you will need to visit your local Asian grocery store, the big box type as most of them sell 8L and 12L sizes. These jars are used for fermentation and usually have a red twist on cap.
These are nice Dit Da Jow jars if you can find them and perfect for those real large kits like the Tie Ba Zhang Jow and Nine Tiger Jow. The only drawback is they are heavy and you get a very good workout when shaking. So if you are in the market for a Dit Da Jow jar we have given you some good starting points.
